TTTK and the 24 Hour Rule
Any cricket enthusiasts will now what 'Through to the Keeper' (TTTK) is all about. The bowler has sent down a delivery that is better left untouched. So let it go through to the keeper, rather than attempt a shot and risk losing your wicket.
TTTK is also a great analogy for life.
We all have situations in our personal and professional lives that annoy the hell out of us and we fire up and let our emotions get the better of us and we lash out. Sometimes we brood on the situation and let it annoy us to the point that we just can't get past it, whatever it is. You may have been wronged or feel that you have been slighted. Maybe you have had your feelings hurt or maybe you spent a lot of time on a client presentation but in the end missed out on the sale to a competitor.
Sometimes the wrong needs to be followed up and investigated to set the record straight in a moral or legal instance. However, many things that happen in our lives are not worth getting upset about or expending your energy on. Things happen and we need to move on.
Don't let inconsequential mishaps or perceived slights become bigger than they really are. Don't give them air.
TTTK. Just let it go! It's not worth the energy and worry. Just move on and get on with what really matters in your life.
Another strategy is the 24 hour rule. Before you thump out a reply to that email you just received that has really made your blood boil, WAIT. The 24 hour rule is pretty self explanatory. Wait 24 hours before you reply. How many times do we act in the heat of the moment and regret it later. Better to wait 24 hours. Sleep on it. Think about it. Calm down. Then write a reply if you need to. At least you will have a better perspective after a bit more careful thought and not reply with something that you may live to regret.
TTTK and the 24 Hour Rule are just a couple of strategies that can make life less stressful with less self recriminations. Give yourself the chance to deal with life with a better thinking mindset. A bit of mindful thinking can create better outcomes for the things that really matter.
If you employ TTTK and the 24 Hour Rule, then 'In Hindsight' doesn't need to be part of your vocabulary.
