ATTENTION : A Must Read For All Business Owners!
Unless you have owned and operated your own business you will never truly understand the pressures and stress that go with that 'privilege'.
You start out with a vision and follow that dream to bring your business to a reality. The road to that reality is not, as you find out, a smooth journey. There are so many hurdles that need to be overcome that by the time you actually open the doors on your venture you will already feel like you have gone through a minefield of obstacles.
Banks loans, property leases, trade credit applications, business registrations, an array of insurances, equipment, fitouts......the list is seemingly endless. Then all you have to do is employ the right staff, manage and train those staff, manage inventory, do the accounts, pay the staff (and ensure there is enough money to pay the staff), do the ATO work and pay them (think PAYG tax and BAS/GST) just for starters.
It's no wonder many business owners feel that everyone wants a piece of them and have stress levels through the roof. Effectively, it's YOU against the world. It is up to YOU. It is essential that you know how your brain really processes a situation and what happens to your mindset when you are in a pressure situation. Everyone has a different way of thinking and you as one person have a certain unique perspective on your business environment.
To start, view your brain as having four areas of expertise; analytical and logical, structural and detailed, humanistic and emotional, innovative and conceptual. We all have a preferred area of thinking and all our thinking perspectives come from that viewpoint. There is no right or wrong BUT as a business owner it is ESSENTIAL you know where you sit in your thinking preferences, not only so that you capitalise on that knowledge but also so that you know where you have limitations and thus when you would need to utilise others expertise and different thinking preferences.
The other ESSENTIAL is to know how your thinking is affected when you are in a pressure situation. I call it your default mode. We all have one. When you are in a stressful situation you will revert to a 'safe, tried and true' method of handling the situation. Your default mode. Knowing this about yourself and where you default to is extraordinarily powerful. If you understand your default mode, you can manage your business decisions with a better understanding in those high pressure situations.
If a business can look at the internal and external human capital they have available and optimise the thinking perspectives within that framework, they will be able to better align their strengths and weaknesses so that they have that knowledge BEFORE it becomes a future problem. Optimise the thinking styles within your business to get maximum benefits so that any possible problems are negated before they become problems and your business will have a much better chance of success and longevity.
Thinking DNA can help YOU to understand your thinking style and where you default to under pressure. Let me help YOU and your business to realise its potential by unlocking and optimising your human capital. Get in touch with me to assess your thinking profile.
