How to use tension in your business for good rather than no good!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone in your workplace all 'clicked' and worked together to bring great outcomes for the success of the business. As a result everyone loved their job and felt that they all played an important part in that success. Staff turnover was negligible because people felt valued in a meaningful way as a result of their contribution. The company culture was positive with an energetic vibe that meant management and staff were all fantastic brand ambassadors to all they met without even realising it.
Isn't that what every business should be striving for? Of course it is but how do you attain that? How do you get everyone to at least understand the perspective of their fellow colleagues and not be bogged down with internal infighting, miscommunication and time wasted on nonessential items that is perpetuated by endless meetings with no resolution? This only creates tension for No Good.
The first step to using tension for good in your business is to understand the thinking style of every individual in your business. If you know everyone's thinking style, teams can become a pool of dynamic, diverse thinking with a more balanced focus to consider more options and make better business decisions. The key is that everyone has something to offer as we all have different strengths in our thinking style. No one style is better than the other, just different. The team becomes a Whole Brain team.
It becomes apparent that everyone has real expertise to offer but that expertise is very diverse. Respect for each other's ideas if often triggered by an 'ah ha' moment in the realisation of knowing why you yourself tackle tasks the way you do and in turn getting an understanding of how your colleagues approach tasks from a totally different perspective. The tension in the team is somewhat quelled just by that first step of understanding the team dynamics emanating from diverse thinking styles.
