Being a Positive Person Costs Nothing: Be an Encourager, Not a Criticiser
I prefer to live my life as a positive person. It makes me happier. Being negative makes me feel down and unhappy so I choose to be positive and happy. And if I am positive and happy, it often rubs off on the people around me. Don't we all want to be happy? It sounds simplistic but really we all control how we look at life and I for one would rather focus on the positive rather than dwell on the negative. There is always a negative as well as a positive. I just don't give the negative any air time. I would rather find a positive and work with that. Encourage, don't criticise.
I think we would all agree that it is more beneficial to our psychological and physical well-being to be a purveyor of positivity rather than negativity. However it isn't always easy to stay in that positive mindset. People will argue that we are either born with a positive attitude to life or we are not. Even if that rings true, that doesn't mean that we have to be ruled by that. We can all live with a positive outlook and have a positive impact on our lives and the lives of others by shifting our thinking to come from a different perspective. We all have that power within us.
First up, be authentic. A bit of a buzz word but essentially it means that we need to be our own person, not a person that we think people want but a person that is true to themselves. If we are all showing our genuine self, we are thinking from the heart and giving our best. Have an opinion that resonates with your beliefs and ideals. It builds trust and respect which are both very positive traits. This then leads to exemplar. By being our true self we are setting an example that self belief is a worthy attribute. If we believe in ourselves we can believe in others. We need to love ourselves before we can love others otherwise we fall back into negativity and self doubt.
All of this needs to be encapsulated in humility. I recently saw a quote from an unknown source " There's a thin line between confidence and arrogance....it's called humility. Confidence smiles. arrogance smirks." Be humble in your knowledge and opinions. Confidence comes from your positivity, by being genuine and setting that example of self belief with a humility that people will respect and admire.
We can all be that positive person. Believe in yourself, love yourself, build your feelings of self worth, set that example for trust and respect but do it all with humility. It all starts with a shift in our thinking that we can be that person. The only person holding you back is you. Encouragement breeds positivity, criticism breeds negativity.
The world needs more happiness. Let's go there. No excuses.
